King Street Repaving Project - City of Alexandria
Posted on Jul 27th, 2026

The City of Alexandria plans to mill and repave King Street from South Taylor Street to Menokin Drive including all lanes. The duration of this project wilt be from July 27 to August 3, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, excluding weekends, weather permitting. The work will occur in 3 block sections with the intent of completing each section within 5 days. Please be aware of the following during this project: Roadway striping will be restored as soon as practicable following completion of paving activities.

Residents and businesses are advised of the following during construction:

Parking Restrictions: Parking will not be permitted on affected street sections during active work periods. Temporary "No Parking" signs will be posted in advance. Vehicles remaining in restricted areas may be subject to towing. In the event of delays, temporary signs will be adjusted accordingly.
Plan Ahead During Absence: If you plan to be out of town during the paving season, we highly recommend contacting our office one to two weeks prior to your absence to find out if your street will be affected. Due to the nature of the work, questions about your street beyond two weeks may not be readily available. If you are out of town during the paving, park your vehicle off the street or leave the keys with a neighbor who can relocate it for you.
Traffic Control: Traffic patterns may be modified in and around the work zone. Please follow all posted detours, signage, and instructions from traffic control personnel.
Tree Clearance: Efforts will be made to minimize impacts to overhanging tree branches. The City Arborist will monitor operations, and limited trimming of low-hanging limbs may be necessary to facilitate equipment access.
Project Oversight: City Transportation & Environmental Services (T&ES) staff will be present on-site to oversee project operations.
