How to Preserve Your Pipes & Upcoming Sewer Inspections
Posted on Apr 20th, 2026
It has recently come to the Board's attention that Arlington County's sewer collection system crews are finding abnormally high amounts of grease in the sewers that serve a residential communities just across King Street. In response, Arlington County is asking those communities to periodically provide educational materials to residents. Given the proximity to our community we would like to remind everyone that our system is also roughly 70+ years old and is not meant to handle kitchen waste like FOG (Fats, Oil & Grease), flushable wipes (that are not flushable or compatible for our pipes), and other items outside of normal water and sewer waste. This is a significant and expensive issue for communities with older infrastructure and we wanted to make sure that everyone was aware of the issue and to encourage homeowners, as well as their tenants, to consider before flushing.
Separately, the Board contracted with a vendor at our March meeting to conduct sewer inspections in the community and will be moving this project forward over the next several months to inspect our aging infrastructure. Our goal is to identify any emergent issues and then create a plan to begin proactively replacing our Common Area sewer laterals before their failure in line with our Reserve Study. Please note that owners are responsible for the pipes that service an individual unit.
Thank you for your understanding and everyone’s help to maintain the community and our infrastructure.
